WHAT IS WATCHMAN?
What is the WATCHMAN device?
The WATCHMAN device is a small implant designed to reduce stroke risk in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (AFib).
In AFib, blood can pool and form clots in a small area of the heart called the left atrial appendage (LAA). These clots can travel to the brain and cause a stroke.
The WATCHMAN device is placed into the LAA through a minimally invasive procedure, permanently closing it off to help prevent clot formation and reduce stroke risk.
WHO MAY BE A CANDIDATE?
Who may be a candidate?
You may be a candidate for the WATCHMAN device if you have been diagnosed with AFib and are looking for an alternative to long-term blood thinner medication.
Common reasons patients consider WATCHMAN:
- Difficulty tolerating blood thinners
